- Her beheaded body was found in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico
- A death note found alongside her dead body claimed she was killed because her husband failed to pay the ransom
Life as we know it is full of mysteries and uncertainties. In the first week of February 2019, Mrs. Susana Carrera was declared missing after security camera footage showed armed men forcefully coercing the Mexican beauty into an unidentified vehicle.
The kidnapping of the Mexican businesswoman and her sudden demise came as a big shock to her family and those who were hoping she will return home after demands were made by her captors.
Facts That Offer Insight Into Susana Carrera’s Sad Story
1. She Was The Co-owner of Pezaliminio
Before the kidnap, Susana Carrera was a co-owner of Pezaliminio, an aluminum company jointly run by herself and her husband, Luis Manriquez. The company has its head office at the port city of Coatzacoalcos in the Southern part of Veracruz, Mexico. Her death leaves the company in the hands and management of her husband.
2. Her Captors Knew Her Too Well
Anyone that followed the news of Susana’s disappearance should be perplexed about the circumstances that led to her tragic death. First of all, it was reported that the kidnappers had traced her to her friend’s place where she had gone to pick up one of her kids. This left many people calling for the need to probe inwards as it was believed that a relative or close ally is involved in the plot to extort money from the business-minded family.
3. The Kidnapping of Susana Carrera Was One of Many In The Area
Months before the kidnapping of Carrera, there had been repeated reports of cases of kidnappings in Veracruz. Her incident was just another of such high-profile cases, bringing the number of kidnappings in the city to an all-time high compared to the previous year (2018) when a total of 49 kidnappings and nearly 160 homicides were reported to have taken place.
There are also reports that the city has been recognized as one caught in the middle of fierce drug cartel rivalry, culminating in bloodbaths whose victims are largely residents of the locality.
4. The Real Reason She Was Kidnapped and Killed
Although many reports suggest the main reason she was kidnapped was financially related. That is, for monetary gains; there are speculations it was beyond that considering how fast she was killed and sent to her family barely a week after she was kidnapped.
Amidst the many controversial stories surrounding this event, her family’s inability to raise the four million Mexican Pesos ($207,700) ransom demanded by the kidnappers for her release has been highly debated as the actual reason for her death. As it was written on the bag where her decapitated body was left: “This happened to me because my husband played the tough guy and didn’t want to pay my ransom”.
5. Susana Was The Second Lady Killed That Week
With the series of kidnappings happening in Veracruz, the body of a lady identified as Janet Rodriguez Marquez who went missing the previous month in January was found in Tlacotalpan, a municipality not too far from Veracruz. It was gathered that the case of Marquez was a little different from Carrera’s in the sense that a large portion of her demanded ransom had been paid by family members. But, unfortunately, her kidnappers were ruthless, they took the 500,000 pesos ($26,000) realized and returned a dead Rodriguez to her heartbroken family.
6. Have Her Killers Been Found?
It has been over a year since her body was delivered in a black bag with that devastating note. But reports from the Attorney General’s office in charge of the case are yet to reprimand anyone for her murder. As a matter of fact, the Attorney General’s Office, or Fiscalía General del Estado de Veracruz as it is called in Mexico; has been heavily criticized for placing more emphasis and focus on his launch of investigations on how snapshots of the deceased were leaked from the medical examiner’s office rather than fighting the real case at hand and bringing Carrera’s murderers to justice.

Although not much is known about her family, leaked family photos on the internet show she is survived by her husband Luis Manriquez who manages their company, and two children; a boy and a girl.
Susana Carrera’s gruesome murder remains unsolved at the moment. Her killers are still at large. Moreover, a Mexican government report indicates the number of missing persons has risen to more than 100,000.
