Xenia Ignatyeva is one among a number of people who met their untimely death when taking a selfie went wrong. Ignatyeva was a teenage Russian girl who was just a month away from her 18th birthday in April 2014 when she died.
She slipped from a bridge in Saint Petersburg and in an attempt to save her life, she grabbed a high voltage cable and was electrocuted with 1,500 watts instantly. Reports have it that Ignatyeva liked taking pictures of herself with a camera she bought after doing a summer job. It was revealed that she wanted to take the selfie at night because of the dramatic effect the picture will have and also use the railway as a backdrop.
After she fell from the 30-foot bridge, her friend Oksana Zhankova who was waiting for her rushed to her but it was too late. Apparently, Xenia Ignatyeva was not the first person to die while trying to get an exceptional photo.

1. Jia Lijun
Jia Lijun was a Chinese businessman who was a big fan of a particular walrus at a zoo in Liaoning province, China. He already had pictures and videos of himself and the walrus.
Jia Lijun died while trying to take a selfie. He entered the gated housing area to take a selfie with the female walrus. The walrus grabbed him from behind and dragged him into the pool. Both the Chinese businessman and the zookeeper were drowned to death by the massive-toothed creature who was reportedly trying to play and give them a ‘hug’.
2. Chezka Agas
Chezka Agas was a 17-year-old engineering student from the Philippines who was carried away into a deadly wave on the beach on Bangui bay during a birthday gathering.
Agas was with her classmates that posed for a picture in front of the scenic Bangui windmills when the group was caught in the ocean current.
Most of the party guests were injured but Chezka Agas was the only person who drowned in the wave. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
3. Two Russian Soldiers
Two Russian soldiers were said to be in the Urals region of Siberia posing with a live grenade to take a selfie. The grenade detonated unexpectedly and blew off in their faces. The soldiers did not survive but the phone did.
4. David Gonzalez Lopez
During the 2014 annual running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, a 32-year-old man, David Gonzalez Lopez left the audience-protected area just to get a selfie in front of two bulls that were about to collide. Another bull ran from behind and pierced Lopez on the neck and the thigh with its horns. In the history of the Spanish annual ceremony, David Gonzalez Lopez was the sixteenth person to be killed by a bull during the festival.

5. Ramandeep Singh
15-year-old Ramandeep Singh was an Indian boy who mistakenly shot himself in the head while trying to take a selfie with his father’s .32 caliber pistol. He thought he had tapped on the camera button but it was the gun.
6. Anna Urso
Anna Urso was a teenage Romanian girl who had plans of taking a selfie and sharing it on her Facebook page. She wanted to take a special selfie on top of a train in the northern town of Iasi, Romania. She lay on the roof of the stationary train car but before she could reach up, she hit an overhead live wire that shocked her with 27,000 volts.
Anna Urso burst into flames and suffered from burns on her body. She died in the hospital.
7. Amritpal Singh
Amritpal Singh was a 29-year-old amateur pilot who was known for using his cell phone while manipulating the airplane. In May 2014, he lost control of the airplane while he was trying to take a selfie. The plane crashed in a wheat field killing both himself and another passenger on board.
A camera was found after the accident and footage of the pilot taking mid-flight selfies at low altitudes were seen.
8. A Polish Couple
A polish couple trying to take a selfie on a cliff in Cabo da Roca, Portugal fell and tumbled off the edge into the Atlantic Ocean. The couple was with their two kids ages five and six who stood aside as they took the picture.
The bodies of the couple were not seen until after a day due to the weather condition and sea level. The children were put into the care of polish diplomats afterward.

9. Japanese Tourist
In September 2015, a 66-year-old Japanese tourist identified as Hideto Ueda was said to be taking a selfie at the Royal Gate of the grand mausoleum missed his step and fell backward down the steps of the Taj Mahal.
He suffered severe head trauma before he died in the hospital.
10. English Hiker
An English hiker in July 2015, was struck by lightning while he was trekking at the Brecon Beacons National park in Wales.
It was assumed that the fatal bolt hit the extended, metal rod of the selfie stick and he was electrocuted. The hiker was not found instantly as the rescue helicopters were delayed by a thunderstorm.
