For years, scientists have attempted to explain some of the most bizarre and incredible events on the globe. However, there are strange places on the earth’s surface or beneath its seas that remain undiscovered.
Many questions have arisen as a result of places such as the Bermuda Triangle, Area 51, Fairy Circles, Crocked Forest, Nazca Lines, External Flames Falls, and Easter Island.
Mysterious Places on Earth That Cannot Be Explained By Scientists
1. Bermuda Triangle
For centuries, this stretch of the Atlantic Ocean between Puerto Rico, Florida, and Bermuda, which formed a triangle, has remained one of the unsolved mysteries of the world. Many disasters have occurred here, making it a maritime and aviation nightmare.
As early as the 15th century, Christopher Columbus and his crew reported sightings of light. While this has never been investigated, tales of missing ships and aircraft have continued to be told.
Aside from many speculations of supernatural activities, scientists have also explained the mystery in many ways, including the presence of magnetic fields due to the twisting of the earth’s lines that cause bubbles. However, not many agree with this theory. Despite the number of disasters recorded in the spot, running into hundreds of ships and planes, the US considers it just another area of the sea.
Similarly, the Michigan Triangle is another area of disaster involving ships and aircraft that remains mysterious.
2. Area 51
For years, there have been many stories of the activities of aliens on Earth. Area 51 is a classified area in the US Nevada desert that has closely been linked to such speculation considering the secrecy around it. While it may be a research facility, there are allegations about it being a UFO crash site and a center of extraterrestrial technology.
This speculation has also been strengthened by the claims of former employees who have described working in an underground facility involving aliens. This has never been verified, nor has its depiction in movies like the 2015 movie of the same name reduced its mystery.
3. Fairy Circles
The patch marks on the terrain remain one of the unsolved mysteries of the Namib desert, located in Namibia. Though they are rough, circular shapes, no one has been able to explain how they happen.
Locals have speculated on the power of supernatural forces attributed to gods and dragons. However, scientists have given reasons linking the activities of animals and plants competing for unavailable resources. This has in turn led to erosion on the surface and produced the patches referred to as the fairy circles.
Another similar phenomenon to the fairy circles of Namibia is that of Australia, located 10 miles away from Newman. The ecologist Stephen Getzen has moved away from the termite theory used in Namibia. He observed that the plants organize themselves away from some spots, which create a fairy circle.
Despite these explanations, they are inconclusive.
4. Crooked Forest
Located in the Polish town of Nove Sazanovo, the uniqueness of the crooked forest, also known as Creswelas, is quite fascinating. The pine tree grove was planted by the residents of the town in 1930, and over the years, the 400 trees have stood out due to their odd-shaped trunks against the surrounding forest of straight trees.
In the case of the crooked trees, they grow to almost 90 degrees before righting themselves upwards. Some explanations point to the use of man-made tools and techniques or weather patterns.
However, these explanations have not clarified the mystery, nor have any proven records been found about the crooked pine trees. With the passage of almost a century, this phenomenon has continued to remain a mystery, just like the dancing trees located in Russia.
5. Richat Structure(The Eye of Africa)
For many years, many have tried to give answers to the planet using the largest hot desert, the Sahara, as a starting point. However, as one discovery is made, many more continue to be a mystery. One such structure is the Richat Structure, also known as the Eye of Africa, a spectacular structure of rings when viewed from space.
Located in Mauretania and stretching 25 miles, there are claims that it was caused by a meteor impact. Other speculation points toward erosion around the rings. Interestingly, artifacts found at the site date back more than 300,000 years. Yet, these have not made understanding the structure easier.
6. Nazca Lines
From an aerial view, these are complex handmade carvings also known as geoglyphs that were made in the desert sands of Southern Peru. They depict animals, humans, and plants covering an area of 50 miles.
Considering their complexity, it has made many curious as to how they were made and for what purpose. Many speculations point to the presence of UFOs or the use of surveying tools in making them. However, some of the depictions are closely linked to astrological and religious calendars.

7. Eternal Flame Falls
The breathtaking waterfalls located in Chestnut Ridge Park, New York, are one reason why tourists hike there. Another reason is what lies inside the cave behind the water.
From a distance, a glow can be seen; closer, it reveals a continuous fire that naturally lights. Scientists have not been able to unravel the mystery of the eternal flames and how they continue to relight themselves despite their proximity to water.
8. Easter Island
Remains of ancient civilizations, like the 887 large stone statues sitting on Easter Island, continue to fascinate the modern world. Dating back to 1250 AD, they were carved by a Pacific Island people known as the Rapa Nui. Believed to be sentinels, many lie with their backs to the sea, while many are now covered by the soil.
Their size and weight also add to the curiosity about why they were made and how they were transported. There are speculations that the rocks could have rocked side by side to their present location. Others claim they are deified ancestors of people who once lived there. Since there is no one alive from that time or enough scientific evidence to explain, these would continue to remain a mystery.
9. Stonehenge
The site of giant standing stones surrounded by ancient burial mounds in Wiltshire, England, is now a tourist attraction. Like the statues of Easter Island, no explanation has unraveled the mysteries of how the stones were moved from their original location in Wales, which lies 240 miles away.
Some explanations link the stones to a solar calendar; however, it doesn’t answer the question of the technology used in moving, shaping, or positioning them.
10. Giant Graveyard
Myths have been passed over the years about mortals whose physical appearance made them quite famous. In recent times, the discovery of graveyards for giants is one of the mysteries that science has yet to explain.
In 2016, a giant graveyard was found by archeologists in Jiaojia village in Shandong, China. Some of the interesting items found include the remains of houses, graves, and pits, which suggest an ancient settlement dating back to the Neolithic age.
The graves revealed men who grew to heights of 6 ft 3 inches, which is slightly more than the average height of 5 ft 8 inches for men in that region. The appearance of these giant graves has posed many questions about the identity of the remains.
Some scientists explain that these giants were able to grow to that height because they lived in better times and had access to better food.
11. Yonaguni Monument
This underwater rock structure located on Ryukyu Island, Japan, was discovered in 1986 by a diver trying to observe hammerhead sharks. Ever since, it has continued to pose questions as to how it came about. The rock formation is dated for more than ten thousand years.
Many speculate that it happened naturally. However, there are some investigations pointing towards a lost city that sank under the sea. A Japanese geologist named Masaki Kimora has since led this line of explanation after dedicating close to two decades to observing it.
Like the legendary Atlantis that sank under the ocean, the rock formation is also known as Japan’s Lost Mu continent.
While this explanation has still not answered the mystery of this remains, and for years to come, it will continue to pose more questions.
12. Abandoned Village of Kuldhara
Aside from Rajasthan’s temples, where one comes into contact with supernatural powers, there are stories of haunted sites that send visitors away. The abandoned village of Kuldhara, located in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, has not been occupied for many years. According to historical records, the first settler was Paliwal Brahmin, who came there in 1291.
A local legend has it that the people fled the village to avoid the consequences of not allowing the village chief’s daughter and Salim Singh, an influential state leader, to get married. They laid a curse on the village to prevent anyone from settling.
Reports of strange activities led to an investigation by the Delhi Paranormal Society. During their observation at night, some reported the presence of spirits who tapped them on the shoulder. Allegedly, some of the spirits revealed their names to them.
While the haunting stories keep gaining the attention of many, no scientific explanation has explained what really happened to the Paliwas, and to date, the land has remained barren.

13. Stony Tunguska River
There are many unexplainable events on Earth that give credence to rumors about terrestrial operations on the planet. In 1908, a ball of fire exploded above the Stony Tunguska River in Siberia, leaving behind many questions about what caused it.
While the scientific community thought it was caused by meteorites, the substance was not found at the sight of the crash. Other investigations into comets have still not provided better explanations either.
One eyewitness later claimed he saw the devil, yet this has only fueled superstition and complicated the truth about what happened that day.
