- Jean-Marie Loret, a father of no fewer than 9 children is allegedly the illegitimate son of the German soldier, Adolf Hitler; This would make him the only child of the dictator
- The news of Loret and Hitler being related became public knowledge in the 1970s, about three decades after Hitler died
- Hitler’s worker claimed that he (Hitler) had repeatedly attested to having a child born in 1918 with a French girl – Jean-Marie Loret’s mother is French!
During the First World War, Adolf Hitler worked in France and got a woman, Charlotte Eudoxie Alida Lobjoie pregnant. She later bore a son, Jean-Marie Loret in 1918 and he is believed to be the only child of the notorious Holocaust instigator. Jean-Marie worked with the French army, was a train worker, and wrote an autobiography, Ton père s’appelait Hitler [Your father was called Hitler] before his death in 1985.
His story of being the only direct descendant of Hitler is what has brought worldwide attention to him. Historians and scientists among others have tried to verify this claim. But, is Jean-Marie Loret actually Hitler’s biological son? Find out about the facts and fallacies as we journey you through every important documented detail.
How Old is Jean-Marie Loret and Who is His Mother?
Jean-Marie Loret (formerly Lobjoie) was 66 years old before his death in 1985. He was born on March 25 1918 to a single mother Charlotte Eudoxie Alida Lobjoie. He was born in Seboncourt, near Saint-Quentin in Picardy, France.
His mother had a relationship with a German soldier (believed to be Adolf Hitler) which resulted in his birth.
Before his birth, Hitler had stayed in Seclin, Fournes-en-Weppes, Wavrin, and Ardooie around 1916 and 1917. Based on reports, it was around that period that Hitler had an affair with Charlotte – a claim that eyewitnesses attested to.
However, his said father was not in his life. This would lead to his spending his formative years with his maternal grandparents after his mother moved to Paris to become a dancer.
Subsequently, his mother became married and he adopted his stepfather’s last name, Loret.
A Closer Look at the Facts About His Being Hitler’s Son
He was Only Told About His Paternity in 1948
Jean-Marie reported that he knew that his father was a German soldier but had no idea of his true identity until when he was about 30 in 1948, about three years following the death of Hitler.
The revelation was also about 2-3 years before the passing away of Charlotte.
So, one would ask why Charlotte allegedly hid the identity of her father’s child from him. As far as we know, it is possible that his real paternity was hidden from him in a bid to protect him – perhaps at first from an absent father and later from a man that fueled WWII.
This could be evident in a report by Business Insider. According to the report, when Jean-Marie found out about his true paternity, he fought to stay away from depression. As such, he worked round the clock, stayed away from taking holidays, and dropped hobbies and fun fairs for 20 years.
Besides, as a young boy, he was bullied in school because it was no secret that he was fathered by a German soldier. But could it have been worse if the world eventually knew who his real father was? Probably!
Again, the evidence of his paternity being kept under wraps for decades is also in the report that his first wife left because she found out about his father – Hitler! While this news is difficult to ascertain, he later had a wife, Muguette Loret. He also had several children and some sources claim to be 9 while others claim 10.
Hitler’s Valet Recounted that the Nazi Had a Child and Hitler Knew About It
Has there been any other person who came out and claim that Hitler was their father? Not that we know of. But then, Hitler’s valet, Heinz Linge claimed in his Momoirs, With Hitler to the End claimed that in June 1940, Hitler tasked Heinrich Himmler to find his child and the child’s mother.
If this assertion is true and since there is no other child known, then Jean-Marie may actually be the biological child of the Nazi. The story continues with the claim that Hitler had told a number of people about his fathering a child with a French young woman (who was at the time 16). So this lives us with the question of if there is another French woman who has come out or that we know of in Hitler’s life apart from Charlotte. Your guess is good as mine.
A Historian Documented it After Trying to Gain Evidence for About a Decade
In the 1960s, a renowned historian, Werner Maser heard about the possibility of Hitler being a father in Wavrin in France. This was when he moved to the location while working on research.
This moved him to start a long research and his earliest findings were that which involved the elderly people in the community. Many of them were aware of the story of a girl who took in for a German soldier.
Maser then found Loret and he knew instantly that the then-unemployed Frenchman could be Hitler’s son. Yet, he didn’t stop at it. He dug deeper into Jean’s past.
Again, questions were raised about the truth of Maser’s claims. In his defense, Maser was known for his academic rigor. He was the first historian to discover the massive Nazi party archives taken to the US after the war.
He was also one of the foremost historians to treat the Nazi period as a field of academic research. Beyond this, he made several discoveries of Hitler’s medical records from l905 until his suicide in l945. So, should this man’s findings not be trusted?
Probably – or not? There are historians who claimed that Maser may have focused on the intention to make money off the book he wrote about Hitler and his alleged son. This was against making actual findings that are verifiable.

The University of Heidelberg Claims in a Genetic Certification that Loret and Hitler have blood connections
In trying to find the true identity of Loret, a study was taken by the University of Heidelberg. The study shows that indeed Loret and the man who caused the death of over 6 million Jews had the same blood group.
In any case, there are claims made by a Belgian journalist, Jean-Paul Mulders that DNA samples were collected from Hitler’s relation and Loret. The result turned out to not match.
There is a Physical Resemblance
From the pictures that are found on the internet, Hitler and Jean have a striking resemblance. But of course, we cannot use this to ascertain whether they are related since science has proven that of course, humans can look alike to others. Interestingly, science also finds out that when people look alike, they may have similar DNA even without being related.
Regardless of this, other claims came out that beyond the physical resemblance, the men had similar handwriting.
But is it also a coincidence that the men were drawn to the military again? Probably – or not. Jean fought during WWII against the Germans in 1939.
He also joined the French Resistance and had the codename, Clement. He reached the ranks of a staff sergeant. Looking into statistics, it has been proven that children are likely to follow the career paths of their parents.
Certainly, this does not prove a biological relationship between Loret and Hitler but it can stand in for what if…?
Other Pointers that Jean-Marie Loret Could Be Adolf Hitler’s Son
Years after Jean died and with the constant debate as to whether someone shared a lineage with Hitler, there were official military documents that came to light. The document was originally from the Wehrmacht, the German Army.
The revelation leaned towards enveloped of cash which was delivered to Charlotte, Jean’s mother by German soldiers. With this, it became known that Hitler kept in touch with Charlotte even after he left France.
Also, paintings signed by Hitler were said to have been discovered in Charlotte’s attic.
This was not one-sided as it was recovered that Hitler had a painting of a woman that looked so much like Charlotte. While historians have debated if it was only a resemblance or if it was actually Jean Marie Loret’s mother, it should be known that Hitler was said to have tried to close every possible evidence that he ever had a child.

Facts Presented That Jean-Marie Loret May Not Be Adolf Hitler’s Son
There are suggestions pointing out that Jean may not have been related to Hitler. It is common knowledge that Hitler had repeatedly said he had no children. Perhaps his words against ours. Or shall we say his words against Jean Marie Loret?
Again, according to a Wikipedia article about Hitler, the Nazi soldier projected his life as a celibate without domestic life. Yet, he had a lover, Eva Braun who later became his wife for one;y a day in 1985 before they both committed suicide.
Moreso, the soldier was claimed to have had a romantic relationship with his half-niece. She later committed suicide in September 1931.
Away from that, Maser, whom we had earlier mentioned was said to have interviewed Jean’s aunt, Alice Lobjoe. She claimed that indeed it was a German soldier that fathered Jean but she could remember the face and it was not Hitler’s. She also claimed that Jean is a nutcase.
In another report, historian Joachimsthaler raised a claim that Hitler was against Germans soldiers having relationships with French women. In Balthasar Brandmayer for example, in his 1932 memoir Two Dispatch-Runners, Hitler thought that soldiers who had relationships with French women had no German sense of honor.
Judging based on this, he may not have fallen into what he objected to. So, this would mean that there was no French lover. And if there was never a French lover, then there won’t be a French child in the person of Jean-Marie Loret.
Other Alleged Descendants of Adolf Hitler
If Jean was his son, then there are over a dozen of Hitler descendants in France. The exact children of Jean-Marie are contradictory but there are about 9 or 10 (per different sources). But he was left with only three after his marriage to his first wife crashed.
These 9-10 children could be the direct descendants of Adolf Hitler but may not be as he was or as history may remember him. In 2018, Jean’s son’s (Phillipe Loret) DNA was collected by a Russian TV outlet to be matched with Hitler, whose remains (part) are in Russia.
He claimed that Jean-Marie told them that they were Hitler’s grandchildren. However, Phillippe and his siblings have not told their children (Hitler’s great-grandchildren) about their being related to the general and one of the most feared men in history.
